The Following is a Press Release from Manny Jacques a Leader of Our Local Scouts:
Hello East Windsor. I’m sorry for the length of this press release but I promise you, it’s worth the read.
The year covid hit I did some digging with Marie Groves (Executive Director of the 5 Corner Cupboard) into the files of the pantry….ok, she dug in the files, I asked her to.
She found that in 2014 they collected 17,000lbs. After that year it dropped a bit until we discovered that record. So, a goal was set the year of covid to match that, and we did.
Then continued to roughly replicate that number for 3 years. Then last year, we broke 18,000lbs without even trying. The goal was 17,500lbs, blew it out the water.
Then this year we decided 18,500 was the goal. We came so close! 350 lbs shy but nothing to be mad about. That’s a lot of food.
Now, what I haven’t told many people, is that we found an older record a few years ago that I’ve slowly been building up to. This one dated back to 2001-2002 area. Well before I moved to town. I was still in Cheney Tech (shout out 04 Beavers!) That record was around 21,000 lbs. That was my goal before stepping down as Cubmaster. I wanted my last drive as the official Cubmaster to break that number.
Well who would have thunk that since the drive ended, people have been bringing in bags. Some that never got picked up, some that people forgot to put out, some people were on vacation that weekend and still wanted to donate.
So they brought it themselves in honor of the food drive and to support the Scouts. In fact I just brought a box of food there on Sunday someone gave late cause they were in the hospital.
The amount of food that has been added to the drive since then has totaled 4,400 lbs. That means, that not only did we break the Scouts goal of 18,500, we broke my quiet personal goal of 21,000lbs a few years early and have set and all time record of 22,534 POUNDS!!!!
Including and extra $400 in monetary donations bringing that total to around $1,500!
That money will be used for the holidays to get the family’s dinners for Thanksgiving and Christmas and may even linger into the new year!
Now that is how You help Your Neighbors and make this Community such an awesome place to live in.
Little town , BIG Heart!
Well done Scouts and well done East Windsor!! Share the news and tell everyone you know. These kids deserve the shout out when you see them.
