**The Public is invited to the opening reception on Saturday, February 3 from 1- 3:30 pm in the Community Room of the library.
His dad, Charlie Brewer (a professional photographer/cinematographer) had a major influence on Al’s photographic talent. The love of nature and patience when photographing were two qualities his father taught him. Al ‘s works have been published in Offshore Magazine, Cape Cod Guide Magazine, the Reminder paper and the North American Fishing Club Cook Book. Besides photography, he is an avid kayaker and outdoorsman. Al currently lives in “the woods” of Bolton CT with his wife Linda and their two cats Emma and Phoebe.
Throw out those old paradigms!
Jeff Holcombe will be conducting a seminar at the gallery called “Paradigms: Love Them and Leave Them.”
Part of the Science Up! series at Agonist Gallery, this seminar will consider the idea that science depends on a willingness to give up on its most cherished theories. Scientific progress requires leaving behind old ideas that have outlived their evidence. Societies commit enormous resources to researchers whose focus is to challenge prevailing authority. This is a tenuous relationship. When the challenges are considered heresy, the whole enterprise is in jeopardy. Science is not a belief system. It thrives on the power of evidence to overturn the general assumptions that everyone knows but can’t support. We’ll discuss several of the most revolutionary paradigm shifts in the history of science, including Evolution, Disease, Life, Geology, and Genetics. We’ll also try to identify where the current insurgencies are troubling the authorities now.
A woman hiding in a convent helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she rediscovers her own.
Based on the hit Movie, Sister Act is a high energy comedy with a witty script. Deloris, a sassy and headstrong African American singer with great talent and ambition, but very little success, witnesses a murder committed by her gangster boyfriend, Curtis. Police Officer and Deloris’ former classmate Eddie, hides her in a convent until she can testify in court. Deloris brings new life to the failing church with her high energy funky gospel, and discovers what it means to be a part of something more meaningful than fame.
Featuring original music by Tony- and eight-time Oscar-winner, Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), this uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
In Partnership with the Five Corner Cupboard Food Pantry the Opera House Players will be collecting food and personal care necessities for local families in need during the run of Sister Act. Please consider bringing non-perishable food, or basic needs such as diapers and soap. The holidays may be over, but hunger has no season. Together we can make a difference in our community.
