Geissler’s Supermarkets Celebrates 102 Years of Serving the Community!
Geissler’s Supermarkets, a cornerstone of the local community for over a century, is proudly celebrating its 102nd anniversary. Since opening its doors in 1923, Geissler’s has remained committed to providing exceptional service, sourcing quality local products, and a personalized shopping experience, earning its reputation as the trusted hometown market across Connecticut and Massachusetts.
This milestone follows a year of continued growth and innovation, including the June 2024 acquisition of Fitzgerald’s Foods in Simsbury, CT. The expansion further solidifies Geissler’s dedication to serving its customers with the highest standards in grocery retail.
A Legacy of Quality and Community
Founded by Adolph F. Geissler in Broad Brook, CT, in 1923, Geissler’s began as a small family grocery store serving the local community with fresh, quality ingredients. Adolph’s forward-thinking approach – offering grocery delivery in a Model T Roadster – was ahead of its time and laid the foundation for the company’s customer – first philosophy.
Despite challenges during the Great Depression and World War II, the Geissler family persevered, expanding from a single storefront to a thriving supermarket chain. With each generation, the company has embraced innovation while maintaining the values that have defined it for over a century.
Today, the fourth generation of the Geissler family – led by Bob Rybick, Eric and Ryan Nilsson, and Andrew Rybick – proudly carries forward a legacy of quality and service that has defined Geissler’s for over a century. Through their Local Equals Fresh commitment, they have established Geissler’s as the area’s most trusted source for innovative local products – connecting customers with the finest offerings while supporting farmers, bakers, and artisans throughout the region.
Looking to the Future
As Geissler’s embarks on its 102nd year, the company remains focused on enhancing the shopping experience through technology, sustainability and community engagement.
With seven locations across Connecticut and Massachusetts, Geissler’s continues to evolve, embracing modern retail strategies while staying true to its roots as a family-owned business.
“Our history is what makes us strong, but our future is what drives us,” said Bob Rybick, President & CEO of Geissler’s Supermarkets. “We are honored to celebrate 102 years with our loyal customers, dedicated employees, and incredibly supportive communities. This anniversary is a testament to the generations of hard work and commitment that have built Geissler’s into what it is today.”
As part of the anniversary celebration, Geissler’s will be hosting special events, offering giveaways, and launching new programs and appreciation initiatives throughout the year to bring even more value to their customers.
Customers are invited to join in the celebration and experience firsthand the legacy of Geissler’s Supermarkets – where Local Always Equals Fresh.
