TODAY’S UPDATE (5/8): New Data with Continued Decline in Hospitalizations/ Reopening Guidance Expected This Weekend/ CIAC Releases Guidance for Coaches and Fall Eligibility for Student Athletes/ Bottle Redemption to Partially Resume May 20th/ State Campgrounds and Campsites Closed Until June 12th
Since yesterday’s update, an additional 627 positive COVID-19 cases have been reported in Connecticut, bringing the statewide total to 32,411 since the start of the outbreak, including a total of 64 confirmed cases in East Windsor (+4 since yesterday) and 42 confirmed cases in Ellington (+1 since yesterday). The total COVID-19 associated fatalities of residents reported in East Windsor is still at 8 associated deaths and Ellington also did not change (still at 4 resident deaths) according to today’s state data.
To date, 1,336 patients are currently being hospitalized with COVID-19 statewide (net decline of 49 since yesterday).
To date, a total of 120,541 tests have been performed in Connecticut (+4,367 since yesterday). This data set includes persons who were tested multiple times or multiple specimens tested from the same person.
The total statewide number of COVID-19 associated fatalities is now 2,874 (+77 since yesterday). The Governor’s Office notes that the day-to-day changes are preliminary and reflect newly reported cases, deaths, and tests that occurred over the last several days to week.

GUIDANCE FOR PHASE 1 OF REOPENING ECONOMY EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND
During their news briefing this afternoon, Governor Lamont and Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) Commissioner David Lehman outlined the guidance they are considering for Phase 1 of reopening the economy on May 20. Documents containing guidance for businesses about those plans are currently being finalized and are anticipated to be released this weekend. As soon as those documents are ready, they will be published online at www.ct.gov/coronavirus.
CIAC GUIDANCE FOR COACHING & FALL ELIGIBILITY FOR STUDENT ATHLETES
At the May 7, 2020 CIAC Board of Control meeting, the following actions were taken in
response to COVID-19 related issues:
– OUT-OF-SEASON RULE (One Year Agreement)
o Virtual coaching will be allowed for spring sport coaches through May 31, 2020. Starting June 1, all coaches will be permitted to have virtual contact, which includes skill instruction and conditioning, until August 17, 2020.
o Provided the Governor’s orders allow summer sports to resume, spring coaches may coach their spring athletes until August 17, 2020, provided it is a non-school affiliated program.
– FALL ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY (One Year Agreement)
o When determining eligibility for fall sports, any incomplete grades will be considered a passing grade until the end of the first marking period.
-TRANSFER RULE (One Year Agreement)
o If the receiving school submitted the CIAC transfer notification form and it had been processed by the CIAC office, which established sitting out 50% of the spring 2020 season, those students will be immediately eligible to participate in interscholastic sports, if otherwise eligible.

BOTTLE REDEMPTION PROGRAM TO RESUME ON LIMITED BASIS ON MAY 20TH & FULL OPERATIONS ON JUNE 3rd

STATE CAMPGROUNDS AND CAMP SITES CLOSED UNTIL JUNE 12TH
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has announced that the closure of DEEP campgrounds and campsites will be extended through June 11, with further extensions possible depending on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic. Current reservations will be canceled and customers will be refunded in full. DEEP is monitoring public health guidance and determining any operational changes that will be necessary to safely reopen camping.
